Welcome to Westbury and United Banks Hockey Club Academy.
We deliver hockey coaching from ages 6 to18 for players of all standards. From complete beginner to experienced school player we guide and inspire our young players along a hockey pathway to our development teams, senior teams and beyond.
Most importantly, our hockey is fun, inclusive and challenging. We have a fantastic team of coaches, all of whom play regular Saturday league hockey.
The coaching team includes:
– England Hockey Level 2 qualified coaches
– Several ex-international players
– Avon County coaches
– School sports coaches
All hold current DBS certificates, all follow England Hockey coaching methodology.
Our coaches are supported by an amazing team of parent helpers at each age level.
Our sessions take place at Coombe Dingle Sports Complex, an excellent facility and one of England Hockey’s four National Development Centres. For information on training times for the various age groups and Club contacts, please click on the Academy Training tab.
Tuesday nights “Give Hockey a Go”
On Tuesday evenings we run additional hockey sessions for boys of all age groups at Red Maids’ astroturf at Golden Hill. This is an excellent introduction to our Club and also presents the opportunity for those who play other sports or have commitments on a Sunday morning to play some hockey.
We have close relationships with local primary schools and deliver in school Quickstick sessions with a view to giving as many children in our local community the opportunity to have a go at hockey. We also host a Quicksticks tournament each spring at which a dozen or so local schools participate. Youth Development Selection Policy
This policy demonstrates Westbury & United Banks Hockey Club’s commitment to the development of young players as they are the future of our club and of hockey in general and that the club will always act in the best interests of the individual.
The policy’s aim is to ensure that our young members are given every opportunity to reach their full potential whatever level that may be (international, regional, county, and club, social or otherwise). To meet this we focus two of our sides around the development of youth. Our 5ths (Wizards) and 7ths (Widgets) give the younger players the opportunity to enjoy hockey in a friendly environment with experienced players with a distinct progression path up through the club as their skills improve.
Club documentation is currently being reviewed and will be updated and published here ASAP.
Please email Academy Coordinator with any questions on this topic in the mean time.
