The 9th club day
started on a high when Terry Watts got down on one knee and proposed
to Sarah Griffiths in front of 100 of their teams mates. There was
thunderous applause from everyone. Having started on such a romantic
note, club day continued with a lot of high quality play.
In pool 1 goals
were scarce. The Captains' Team (Team 1) came last in the pool with
3 points. They started with a 1-0 defeat against Team 2, but then
followed up by winning against Team 3 by a single goal scored by
Chris Poulsom. Their final game was a close encounter with Team
4 losing by the odd goal in three with a Westberries lady getting
the goal. Team 2 fared a little better with their 4 points coming
in a mixed fashion! They opened with a 1-0 win against the Captains
courtesy of a Tony Webster goal, before drawing 0-0 with Team 4
and then losing by a solitary goal to Team 1. Team 3 reached the
runners-up spot with 4 points and a better goal difference than
Team 2. They ground out a 0-0 draw with Team 4, then fell to a 1-0
defeat. They rounded off the pool games in style with a 5-0 trouncing
of Team 2. Ger Openshaw had a mazy run and a thumping finish, two
goals were scored by Westberries, Stuart Blake added another and
the 5th goal remains anonymous. Top of the pile was Team 4 who made
it to the final with 5 points. They battled their way to two 0-0
draws against Teams 3 and 2. They topped the group by winning 2-1
against The Captains. Young Alex Maydew, who looked composed on
the ball during the afternoon, scored himself and Doug Scott added
the second.
Pool 2 was full
of goals, 14 in total and some good ones amongst them. Teams 5 and
6 scrapped out the first game with Steve Millman notching the only
goal of the game. Team 5 had all the opening play but Team 5 finished
strongly. Kirsty Andrews in goal was in great form all day and pulled
off several match winning saves. Next game was an end to end match
between Teams 7 and 8. Will Glynn popped in the first goal early
in the game. Nathan Walkey was playing well on the pitch, but his
rich vein of winter goals dried up on him, and he drew a blank on
the day. However, scorer became provider, as he topped his shot,
saw it bouncing past the far post, where Will Glynn was on hand
to cut the ball at waist height into the goal. Team 7 were playing
well themselves and had an equal amount of the game. They pulled
a goal back only to see Will Glynn work his way around the D, turn
and shoot for a well deserved hat-trick. That wasn't the end as
Team 7 pressed again and an attack down the left wing left Ned Holmes
clear at the far post to prod the ball home. Ned played well all
day and looks to have skill and strength that will be fully employed
this summer with the Devils. The final result was a close 3-2 win
for Team 8. The third sand game was another close contest between
Team 5 and Team 7. Max Longden opened the scoring. Max had a good
day, showing skill, strength and stamina (playing 5 games in total).
Then came (in my view) the goal of the day. Jo Riley picked the
ball up on the right and unleashed a powerful rising drive. Clint
Bryer hardly had time to blink as it soared past his head for a
cracking goal. Team 7 were by no means beaten and Neil Moon was
a threat around the D throughout the game. In fact it was Neil,
with a deflected shot, that made for a 'grandstand finish'. Tom
Taylor was like a magnet to everything that came near him, cutting
out a high percentage of the Team 5 attacks. Phil Simon found his
old touch several times in the heart of the defence. Team 5 held
out to win 2-1. Team 6 showed that they were the best team in the
sand pool with a 4-1 win against Team 8. Will Glynn rounded off
a good scoring day for himself with his 4th goal, but Team 6 had
Jack Chalk on target, sweeping in a fast raid down the right, Geoff
Rickard getting two well taken goals and Mike Harvey working his
skills in the D to open up his scoring opportunity. Team 8's tired
legs then had to deal with Team 5. Reston Smith, Claire and Alan
Sparks were prompting from midfield and Max Longden scored early,
beating the previously almost unbeatable Kirsty in goal. Jo and
Max then set up Martin Palmer with a simple tap in for number 3.
Gareth Nichols pulled one back when he came in at the back post
to sweep in a right wing cross into the roof of the net for a spectacular
goal. Chris Cutts made the game safe with his run down the right
before laying it off for an easy Martin Palmer goal. The final pool
game saw Team 6 needing a win to reach the final. Team 7 ran it
very close, but it was decided by one strike from Nick Coates.
The match for 7th
and 8th place was a good game played with tired legs. The captains
opened the scoring with a goal from a Westberries player. Neil Moon
equalised at the other end, and Will Holmes thought he had won it,
only to find his goal disallowed. The game finished up as a 1-1
draw with both teams tied for 7th place. There was a similar story
to the 5th and 6th placed final. Tired legs saw both side slug out
a 0-0 draw with both of them ending up sharing 5th place. There
was deja vu for the 3rd and 4th place final. There were few chances
as Teams 5 and 3 kept each other at bay for another 0-0 draw and
3rd place for each of them. The final was a good game of end to
end hockey, in which either side might have made the break through
to win the game. In the end it was a passing move down the middle
that presented Pete Farrell with a rebound to lash in the only goal
of the game. In a post match interview Pete was asked for his comments
on his winning goal and his reply was "#@+%$£",
which probably sums up the energy commitment everyone put into the
day. There were 98 tickets sold which means that almost 100 club
members from the men's and ladies sections did (or planned) to take
part. An excellent, best ever turn out. However, the memory that
will linger most with everyone is Terry's bravery in proposing in
front of the gallery, Sarah's look of shocked rapture, and the warmth
of everyone's applause. It shows what a fantastic club we are that
we can share so much with each other. Congratulations to Terry and
Sarah. Thanks go to Dave Wornell and the pool of umpires (Armsby,
Griffin A, Morton, Counsell et el). Dave for organising his 9th
club day and the umpires for letting the games flow without the
need for a single "up ten" let alone any cards. |

3rd
XI: At half time the 3rd team match with Newent
had reached the heady heights of 0-0 in this end of season friendly.
Newent looked a well organised side and there were a few signs of
fatigue from the club dinner the night before. The first half did
not reflect the glut of goals that would fly in during the second
35 minutes. Newent opened the scoring, but it didn't take long for
Max Longden to pick up a rebound off the pads to hammer in an equaliser.
Newent responded to this almost immediately by taking the lead again.
Within minutes Westbury had equalised once again. This time Nathan
Walkey set up Jack Chalk who calmly played his shot wide of the
keeper to make it 2-2. It was now an end to end game, with both
sides playing good hockey. Newent once again went ahead with a great
individual goal, the visiting center forward took on Pete Murphy,
went to his right to open up the space for the shot and found the
target with a rising shot. Nathan walkey, the club's leading scorer
this season was so impressed he shared a 'high five' with the Newent
score as both sides reformed to restart the game. Westbury were
once again playing 'catchup' and it was Jack Chalk who delivered
the goods again. His fellow Wizard's team mates on the side said
that attacking the D from the right and hitting a reverse stick
shot/edge along the ground was his trade mark. This he did and his
shot found the corner of the goal for 3-3. It seemed that both sides
were trading goals every few minutes. However, the pattern changed
with Westbury going ahead. Max Longden provided the searching cross
from the right that Terry Watts met to tap across the wrong footed
keeper, for what looks to be a simple goal, but still needs perfect
execution. Newent managed to pull of an equaliser of their own with
just s few minutes left on the clock. The game finished 4-4 and
was a well contested game by two equally matched sides. |
Widgets: The
Widgets defence had to work their socks off to keep out a young,
fast Weston side who had the lion's share of the firsts half. Duncan
Ogilvie and Dave Wornell had the best two chances in the first half,
but were unable to beat the Weston goalkeeper. Weston could have
piled on quite a few goals if they had held their nerve and having
got into the right position, played the ball back to a supporting
forward. Instead they either held the ball too long or put the ball
across the face of the goal beyond their own forwards. When the
first half was drawing to an end, Weston at last made the breakthrough,
a defence splitting past found a Weston forward at the far post
to sweep in. There was little time left for anything else to happen.
From the restart after half time, there were barely a couple of
minutes gone when Hugh Woodward worked his magic down the right
and provided the perfect slip square for Dave Wornell to pick his
spot. The second half was a much more even affair and both sides
played well. Inside the last 5 minutes Hugh Woodward, attacked down
the middle, beat several defenders and unleashed a massive shot
that looked to be the winner. Judges would no doubt have awarded
him 9.5 for the quality of his goal. The same can't be said about
his erratic goal celebration that was a cross between a three year
old dancing and an orangutan looking for a mate. The same judges
would have awarded 0.5 and that would have been generous. Hugh said
afterwards he thought that the game had been won, but one very late
Weston attack produced an even later equaliser. A draw was a fair
result, with some good performances on the pitch, especially as
a considerable number of the team had been at the club dinner the
previous evening. James Pope had one of his best games attacking
the space behind the defence. |
Veterans:
The Veterans put together a lot of good passes in their game against
O Bristolians and both sides were evenly matched for most of the
game. Westbury's failing was that having played well to get to the
opposing 25, they consistently were unable to find the decisive
pass to open up any scoring chances. Too often the ball was held
up and lost with nothing came from the hard running put in by the
midfield. O Bs scored their goal in a first half where neither keeper
was seriously tested. Westbury worked their way back into the game.
A second half short corner came to Pete Farrell who had injected
the ball. His sweep at goal found the defender's knee on the line
and Tony Webster tucked in the penalty stroke to tie it up. The
game could well have stayed at 1-1, but O Bs had different ideas,
and three goals in the last five minutes gave them a flattering
4-1 win. Tom Taylor was a driving force in midfield. Steve Millman,
Dave Holliday and Mark Crofts prompted from midfield, but the second
half saw precious few chances. On another day the decisive passes
would have come and goals would have followed, today was just one
of those matches when it just wasn't going to be our day. It was
good to see a big squad turn out (15 players) when in the last two
vets games we only had 11 and 12. |

1st
XI: The first team finished their season with a 3-2 defeat against
Cardiff University, but came within millimetres of squaring it with
the last hit of the game. Goals from Andy Smearld and Pat Haynes
were countered by three from the students. Another penalty spot
opportunity came and went without a goal, the fourth in a row with
Neller the unfortunate victim off the p-spot jinx. There was another
cruel twist on the final short corner. The ball came to Chris Cutts,
making his first team debut, he turned and cracked a shot that hit
the post and went out of play. Such is the difference between success
and disappointment. The first team can now regroup in the summer
league ready to stage a challenge next season in Prem 2. |
|
2nd
XI: The word (well text) from Slider was awesome
as the twos rounded off their season with a 9-0 demolition of Robinsons.
Terry Watts (2) Neil Moon (2) Nick Coates, Stuart Blake, Paul Mason
and Gary Roper shared out the goals. This win elevates the seconds
to 7th place thus avoiding the 5 places below them that could all
possibly be relegation spots depending on how many come down from
the National League and the 'knock-on' effect it will have on each
division. |
3rd
XI: The thirds were in a similar position to the
seconds with a 'winner take all' game at Firebrands. The bottom
line was that which ever side lost would go down as a result of
the mass relegations due to take place this season. Firebrands opened
the scoring from a short corner, nudged in at the far post. Westbury
were unable to get any pattern into their game and under-hit passes
and a lack of pace were all to often evident in the first half.
Steve Puetz did bag an equaliser, tapping in Nathan Walkey's short
corner rebound. However, two more Firebrands shorts were successful
and the home side turned round 3-1 up. The thirds did have several
scoring chances before the break, but the home keeper and Nathan's
foot (oops) prevented them from scoring. The half time talk must
have had some venom in it, as they came out all guns blazing. James
Pearce-Smith rifled in a right wing cross, Tommy Alger flicked it
on, and Nathan Walkey was there like a tennis player at the net
to hit the ball on the volley. It only took a minute to score again.
This time Nathan worked the ball in at the near post, drew the keeper
and pulled it back for Tom Alger to tap in for 3-3. By now the thirds
were on fire, full of pace, passing the ball around much more effectively
and causing all sorts of problems for the home defence. Nathan put
them ahead, his first cross-come-shot hit the keeper and fell nicely
for him to push into an empty net. Then came a superb strike from
James Pearce-Smith from the top of the D. Hugh Woodward rounded
it all off cleverly slipping the ball under the goalkeeper after
working his way around the D. This was a first class performance
from the thirds that moved them up to 6th place and pushed Firebrands
down to 9th. |
Wanderers:
Steve Millman reported that Robinsons had zero shot and zero goals,
the Wanderers had many shots and.......zero goals. Not quite the
end of season finale that the Wanderers might have expected. Their
luck in front of goal was missing. Their build up was a bit ponderous
and many of the passes into the D were predictable. However, the
team finished 4th with some very good results this season. Next
season they will need to find consistency to push for the top spots
in this division, never-the-less it has been a successful season
for Jimmer's crew. |
Wizards:
Robs were unable to raise a side and a 5-0 walk-over is the anticipated
outcome for this game. A disappointing way to finish the campaign.
If the RSC do award the game the Wizards will have finished in 7th
place having flirted with relegation. |
Warriors: The
Warriors have been playing with some style in 2009, but sadly they
fell well below their own standard in a scrappy encounter with winless
S Glos. Westbury struggled to make progress in moving the ball forward
and didn't exploit the space in behind the visiting defence. JJ,
who has had a very successful season was able to maintain another
clean sheet. When Tom Fishley was introduced into the game he brought
a gasp of 'awe and wonder' from the watching Wizards, with a clever
turn that took him past three defenders. The deadlock was eventually
broken, when Dom Harris threaded the ball through for Tony Webster
to strike the only goal of a memorably forgettable game. The positive
is that the Warriors went 9 games unbeaten, losing only once in
2009 (to league winners in waiting O Bs). If they can take this
form into next season and their experienced forwards came stay injury
free, they can mount a serious challenge at the top of the table. |
Widgets
& Wizards: The Widgets and Wizards mixed up their two
sides for an intra-club friendly. It shows the strength in depth
the club has, that these two sides played out a quality game. There
was a comedy moment a minute into the game when Max Longden turned
quickly bundling Jez (his dad) to the ground like a lumberjack felling
a giant redwood. This earned Max a 'tongue in cheek' green card
with the advice to "Be gentle with your 'old man', he's your
meal ticket!" It finished 4-3 to the yellow team. The yellows
took a 2-0 lead with goals from Mark Crofts and Alan Sparks. Stuart
Edworthy pulled a goal back for the reds early in the second half.
Duncan Ogilvie then scored a sneaky goal. He got a touch to a stinging
cross that hit Andy Pound spun up and over the keeper with the spin
taking it just over the line. Poor Andy lost sight of it and couldn't
see it inches behind him crossing the line almost in slow motion!
Ben Lipfriend then banged in a smart goal, after another of James
Popes many good runs down the right, for a 4-2 lead for the yellows.
Just as the clock ran down, Cocksy made a great run into the D and
hammered in a goal with the last hit of the game. There were some
impressive performances from the lads who have broken into adult
hockey. Ed Minchin and Ben Lipfriend are following the example of
Max Longden, showing skill, tenacity and a growing knowledge of
how to play this game of ours very effectively. There were many
other good performances across the pitch. Well done to everyone
who took part. |

XI: The first team had a 3-3 draw with Exeter University in
their penultimate game of the season. |
|
2nd
XI: The seconds pulled off a good win at
Somerset Gryphons. If the twos win their final game and Gryphons
lose to Cardiff & UWIC next week, then they can leap frog
them in the final table. |
3rd
XI: The third team had a close match at
West Wilts but came away empty handed in a 4-3 defeat. Skipper
Andy Griffin was on target twice and Max Longen once (on the
same day as his dad scored!) |
Wanderers:
The Wanderers were another team who finished up on the losing
end of a close scoring match. They lost 3-2 to O Bristolians
with Steve Millman and Pete Farrell getting the goals. |
Wizards:
The Wizards found the students from Bristol UWE a tough team
to handle. The visitors exploited the veteran ( and AJ) defence
with their pace and skill. Bristol opened up a 2 goal lead
in an end to end first half. The Wizards never gave in and
managed through hard work and tenacity to get themselves back
into the game by half time. Chris Poulsom had a strong run
down the middle, beating several defenders, before chipping
his shot over the keeper. Next Alan Sparks, who had a good
game at right mid, followed up a shot off the keeper's pads
to ram home to bring the scores level. Bristol opened the
second half by absorbing the first couple of Westbury attacks
and then counter attacking at speed to score two goals in
two minutes. This was a big ask of the Wizards to pull it
back again, but they stuck at their task and a foot on the
line gave Jez Longden the chance to score from the p-spot.
He did with in the style of his many first team penalty strokes,
before his enforced retirement from that level of hockey,
(his son Max also scored on the same day!) The game was well
contested right down to the final whistle, but Bristol scored
with five minutes to go and again with a short corner in time
added on for the short to be completed. This was a 6-3 defeat,
but there was no lack of effort on the part of the Wizards,
they fought all the way to attempt to get a result. |
Warriors: The
Warriors fell behind to an early goal at Bristol UWE, against
a strong well organised side. It didn't take long for the
warriors to equalise, the goal coming from Tony Webster who
stopped and struck a short corner. Both teams created some
good scoring chances, but whereas Westbury's efforts went
just outside the post, Bristol put two of theirs in to establish
a 3-1 cushion at half time. Last year the Warriors would have
been blown away in this position, but this year has been a
revelation with the introduction of 'young blood'. Tom Fishley
and ben Lipfriend turned on a superb second half show down
the right hand side of the pitch, causing the home defence
all manner of problems. Tom was the architect of the comeback,
finding Pete Thomas. Pete controlled the ball turned and unleashed
the fastest shot I've ever seen him hit. If it had been a
cricket test match the speedometer would have recorded 91.5
mph! Westbury were looking strong with Dave Holliday and Jamie
Cranfield working hard in the middle. Next it was Ben's turn
to carve out a chance. His skillful run down the right and
a perfectly weighted diagonal pass across the D allowed Martin
Palmer to slam the ball past the keeper into the roof of the
net from10 metre out. There was still time for a 'twist in
the tail'. A goal mouth melee, with five minutes to go, saw
Tony Webster nudge the ball in at the third or fourth go from
under the keeper's pads from close range to put the Warriors
4-3 up. Almost immediately Bristol attacked and grabbed an
equaliser. It took some resolute defending for the last three
or four minutes to keep out the pacy students to secure a
well earned draw in a game that came within minutes of being
a incredible come back win. Well done to the Warriors who
have gone on an eight game unbeaten run with just the bottom
team to play next week. |
Widgets: The
Widgets looked good going forward at Firebrands and could
easily have gone into a lead. Both sides created chances,
with Westbury having more than the home team. However, a defensive
error saw a wayward clearance go straight to a home forward
in the D who had time and space to score. Tim Dawson showed
his skills on his return to playing and Joe Connelly was back
after a spell out with injury. Will Enderby and Anthony Spenser
looked strong on the ball when going forward. The score stayed
at 1-0 to Firebrands at half time. The Widgets had the perfect
start to the second half. Anthony Spenser had the ball on
the left hand side of the D. His push across the face of the
goal from a narrow angle was excellently judged, going in
at the far post for his first goal for the club. The home
team were very effective going forward, particularly down
the right. Two second half goals for the home side put the
game out of reach of the Widgets, losing their final league
game by 3-1. They can still be pleased with their season's
total of seven wins and 21 points. They have introduced a
number of young players to the club and had the services of
several new players who have moved up to higher teams. |

XI: The first team lost their bottom of the table match with
Bath Buccs by four goals to three. Joe Thomas (2) and Neil
Richardson were on target. |
|
2nd
XI: The seconds pulled off an impressive
victory at home to a good Cirencester team. Having established
a 5-2 lead with two goals from Chris Cutts and one each from
Gareth Nichols (from the penalty spot), Rich Hill and Terry
Watts. Cirencester staged a comeback with two goals. The seconds
had to play out the last couple of minutes 'football style'
holding the ball up in the left wing corner of the pitch to
run the clock down. They did this successfully and gained
all three points. |
3rd
XI: A Max Longden goal was the consolation
for the thirds in their 3-1 home defeat to Bath Buccs. |
Wanderers:
The Wanderers were 1-0 up and then 3-1 down against Bristol
& West at Winterborne. The Wanderers fought back with
two goals to gain a point with two goals from Steve Millman
and one from Pete Farrell. |
Wizards:
The Wizards were unable to come a strong N Somerset side and
lost 3-2. Mark Crofts reported that they had a lot of possession
in the second half and many short corners, but were disappointingly
unable to convert any of their chances into an equaliser.
James Pope and Stuart Edworthy were the scorers. |
Warriors: The
Warriors were very impressive in the home match with O Bristolians.
A Martin Palmer shot was saved by Steve Edge in the OBs goal,
but Graeme Brown was on hand to tap in at the far post. Tony
Webster made it 2-0 at half time with a thumping shot, and
was unlucky with several other shots that went just wide.
Steve Edge, lying on the ground, mad an incredible stick save
to deny Tony a goal after he had gone round him. In the second
half Pete Thomas hit a cross shot that went into the roof
of the net off a defender's stick. This was Pete's 100th winter
and summer goal. Mike Harvey finished off a good team move,
much of it in involving Tony Webster and Tony got number five
with another scorching shot. Adam Banting, Dave Holliday and
Dom Harris ran the midfield in an excellent team performance. |
Widgets: The
Widgets won 6-1 against a young Devizes team. Chris Poulsom
notched a hat-trick, Hugh Woodward grabbed two on his return
from injury and Alex Yuill scored the remaining goal. |

XI: The first team were at home to Devizes and fought a defensive
battle to contain well organised opponents. They kept them
at bay for 34 minutes through a combination of good goalkeeping
and solid covering. A dubious short corner gave Devizes the
lead on the stroke of half time. There was more of the same
in the second half, with Devizes scoring twice more. Liam
Cureton showed some neat touches and good passes on his debut. |
|
2nd
XI: The seconds shared eight goals with
Whitchurch, with both teams earning a point. They came back
from 4-2 down to get two late goals to tie the game. |
3rd
XI: The third team were in control of their
game against N Wilts and returned from Swindon with three
valuable points. Doug Scott, Chris Poulsom, Nathan Walkey
and James Pearce-Smith were on target. |
Wanderers:
The Wanderers served up some great hockey against an experienced
Firebrands side. The Wanderers pace was a telling factor in
this victory. Firebrands played a long ball game to two lone
strikers who did manage to score twice, the second coming
very late, when the win was almost guaranteed. Firebrands
scored first, before Pete Farrell equalised from a well struck
short corner. Paxo was called into action to keep out a number
of shot,s including a diving stick stop low to his right,
but Westbury had the greater share of possession and looked
a very good side. They were unlucky not to have scored several
goals. Throughout the game the Brand's veteran goalkeeper
pulled of some fantastic saves. At half time the score was
still tied at 1-1. It took a great goal to put the Wanderers
ahead. Dave Harris used his skill and footwork to beat a defender
on the left side of the D, after the umpire had played the
advantage after an earlier foul. Dave's pass found Pete Farrell
on the back line to the left of the goal. He worked his way
past a defender and flicked the ball in from the narrowest
of angles. The Wanderers were by now in full stride and Bomber
capped a fine game by striking from the top of the D. The
fourth goal came when Tom Taylor, shirking his defensive duties,
was in the right wing position. He beat his man, cut in down
the back line before sliding a perfect pass back to James
Haynes to slot home. The whole team played exceptionally well,
their running was effective, their passing was accurate and
they fully deserved this win. |
Wizards:
The Wizards banged in 4 goals against Bristol & West to
gain all the points. Adam Banting hit the net twice, Stuart
Edworthy and Jamie Cranfield completed the scoring. |
Warriors: The
Warriors played some of their best hockey of the season in
the first half against Firebrands. Playing up the slope at
Failand, Sam Brewer, Tom Fishley and Ben Lipfriend were cutting
holes in the home defence, with Dave Holliday acting as a
strong link in the middle of the pitch. There were numerous
Westbury chances with some near misses and some good saves
from the home keeper. The pressure paid off when Ben Lipfriend
worked his way past several defenders before flicking the
ball past the keeper for a very well taken goal. A second
goal was needed and it came just before the break. Jez Longden
hammered in a short corner to make it 2-0. There was a good
first half from Pete Ratcliffe who was unlucky not to score
himself. The half time whistle as it often does, stopped the
free-flowing hockey that the Warriors had been playing, they
didn't quite get a grip on the game like they did in the first
half. There were still several chances to get the killer third
goal, but the team seemed to lack the confidence to pull out
the right sort of shot. Instead Firebrands scored a freak
goal. A home forward hit a powerful cross from the right hand
side of the D. It caught a wicked defection off a Westbury
stick and flew past JJ into the top near-side corner of the
net. This was the first goal that the Warriors have conceded
in over five and a half hours of hockey! The Warriors defence
went 'walkabouts' for a moment after the home team had stepped
up their game and they snatched an equaliser with a break
that gave them a man over and a simple opportunity 15 minutes
from the end. There was always the danger that Firebrands
could sneak a winner and Jon Jarvis had to be very alert to
keep them out on more than one occasion. On the final whistle
Firebrands had a short corner. They had three attempts at
goal, all kept out by JJ and co, to ensure the Warriors went
home with a point. |
Widgets: The
Widgets fell behind to a goal from Bristol & West. Will
Glynn, returning from injury squared the match with a goal.
The result was decided by the final touch of the game. Westbury
were awarded a short corner, and the whistle went for time.
Up came Austin Sheppard from full back, and Mr Reliable banged
in the short to win the game 2-1. |
